Wheee...one more paper left! I simply can't wait!
Anyway, I hope the last paper will not be unexpectedly tough. Coz somehow I got this feeling it would be.
Oh well. Shall not think so much. Shall get back to make the last charge!!
Well, yesterday was a pretty inetresting day for me. I got up at 4am (on my own mind you, didn't need mum to get me up.) and took a cab down to the padang for the stand chart marathon. Horror of horrors! The cab fare was simply outrageously expensive! It was twice the normal price just because it was before 6am!
Anyway, I thought I was going to be really really early but surprisingly, there were already quite a number of early birds there. I sat around not knowing what to do for a while until I found out that two of my seniors had also reached the place. Fortunately. they were my lifesavers as I was feeling really thirsty! And I cannot survive 21km without hydrating before that!
Fast forward to the start line. Seriously, I don't understand why in the world did the Dj keep asking us to 'Put you hands up'. It was OK if he said it once or twice..ok maybe he wanted to hype up the atmosphere, but please, don't copy the music. Apparently, they were playing a song which kept repeating the exact same words that the Dj said. But anyway, there were peopl who were rather spontaneous too..fortunately no one was perspiring at the startline yet, otherwise, all the 'put-your-hands-up' would mean ' air-your-smelly-arm pits'.
Anyway, there was a short delay of about 5 mins before the runners at the back of the pack ( me for instance) actually started. The beginning part of the run was comfortable. I took the effort to read the reasons that people came for the run, which was pinned behind their backs. Some just did it for fun, others to motivate the runner behind them by writing encouraging words, others had a picture of their children on them, then there were still others who were simply spoilers- one said " if you are running behind me, you suck". Haha. One of the seniors told me about this spoiler. Turns out that they overtook him. haha.
Along the way, the first peculiar sighting was that of 'ICE WOMAN'. THis lady was dragging an ice box placed on a tyre as she ran or rather, 'toiled'. It was for a 'save-the-environment' cause. I thought she was just running the short 10km distance but no! She was running the full marathon! I would think that she is crazy but on the other hand, I really admire her strength, courage and determination. A true embasador of mother nature indeed! Environmental Conservationists would simply love to have her as their poster girl.;P
Then there was also spiderman and catwoman, and a pair of runners who were attached to each other by some string which tied them together. Turns out that one of the pair was blind and needed to be guided by his friend using the string. I saw the way they ran. It seemed like their hearts were really beating as one.Truly inspirational:)
Anyway, personally, I felt that the run wasn't as gruelling as I thought it would be though one needed a certain level of determination to complete it.( I was starting to play with thoughts of walking at the 14km mark and wondering why it took longer and longer for me to see the next marker) But Im glad that I kept my legs moving all the way. It didn't really feel like I had ran 21km after I crossed the finishing line. But somehow, it just felt like I became a stronger person mentally for that moment. I hope that I will have more of such moments in the future. 42km.. i am going to come for you!
