I had such a horrible time trying to get that silly goggle account( just because that gOO- company most probably bought over blogspot and made it a rule to have the users gOO-related, DUh). I had to re-register for about 6 times before I could finally start feed my blogging hunger again, after a pretty long hiatus( Hmm..is 2 weeks considered long?).

Oh well, anyway, these days, it's me against time ( and my own laziness). It's strange how this laziness came about. From what I can remember, I was never a lazy kind of person. I used to voluntarily stand in the train or walk home from the bus stop. But these days, tempting thoughts about changing buses just to avoid the walk and sitting without caring a hoot about having a big butt have disturbed me. Fortunately, I resisted that temptation today, but it was a dreadful walk from the bus stop to my home which is about 800 metres away? What with the obstinate rain that simply wants to fall even if it's only in small, pathetic drops. I was wet and hungry. Wet from the walk into the sea at Changi beach earlier in the afternoon during the fieldtrip for the Biodiversity module. Hungry from the biochem test and the 'frankenstein gym session' earlier in the day.

+The fieldtrip+
I was secretly happy that the sun was shining really brilliantly in the morning till around 2pm. I was convinced that God was faithful and heard my prayers to Him for good weather. Afterall, he made it rain the whole day yesterday! So optimistic me thought that it would be fair weather for the whole of today! But I guess, maybe God is fickle-minded at times too. That's why we hear people say that the weather is " unpredictable." But I have to add that God did fulfill half of His promise though. Read on to see what I mean.

The trip to Changi was quite satisfying. Albeit the weather could have been friendlier. I had a nice time with myself on the bus. Yes. Finally have time to sit down and *reflect* and just re-laax..I closed my eyes and tried to steal a wink or two. When I got up, it was raining!!! How could it be? The sun was STILL shining before i napped! However, I came to realise that it was just a passing shower and when we got off the bus, the rain had stopped.

I had a fun time looking at the flora and fauna that the TA's had caught. And the unfortunate victims of human curiosity were: the swimming crab (commonly known as the flower crab which could make a mean dish of balck pepper chilli crab by the way); the Moon crab( which has a really nice shall design!); the Tripod fish (which seriously resembles a mini tripod stand because it has two pectoral fins that stick out at 45deg angles and together with the other dorsal fin, makes us the tripod stand's legs!); and this rather creepy looking segmented worm called a polychaete or sthg( it swims really fast via undulations of it's body!); and of course, not forgetting, we have the macroalgae- seaweed! By the way, algae are not classified under the Plant Kingdom because they do not have stems or leaves or roots! They just..float around.

Now comes the most exciting part- entering the sea with a huge net and becoming a fisherman for the day! Well, I went in together with the TA and two other guys( sadly, ya ling couldn't go in with me because of some sensitive female biological reason ).The bottom substrate was really muddy! I could feel my shoes almost being pulled off at certain parts. As we wadded deeper, I started to become whiny.HA! Since I was the most vertically-challenged, they used me as a gauge to determine how deep we wade. What an honour.
Finally, the crucial step: dragging the net towards the shore. Pretty brainless job to do. But still, needed some skill as the muddy ground proved to be quite an obstacle.
The reveal- more helpless victims of biology students- Mr. Puffer the fish, Mr Flower the crab ( whose shell was covered with some of his 'sticky' barnacle 'friends' and a strand of seaweed, he really looked pretty silly) , and a sea snail with it'two small, black shiny eyes staring out from the shell it is tucked snuggly into and finally, a 'corn jelly' which resembles a blob of glue: the gooey kind; but it is a jelly fish relative). A second group of guys went in and this time, caught the corn jelly's bigger cousin- a jelly fish! I think it's the first time I was seeing a jelly fish and I was really, really excited. Haha. I think I became an 8-year-old school girl again at that moment. Gee. No image to upkeep anyway. Haha.

We saw a few other things like barnacles, which secrets a liquid that could be found in your superglue and of how they have the 'longest' repoductive organs with respect to their size. The TA was almost giggling as he explained it. Ok. Moving on.

The weather turned unfriendly, the rain fell again, and it was time to go home-EARLY! HA! So it was a blessing in disguise afterall!

That's all folks!

the clueless biologist, dozing off!
